Folkfest 2008

August 10th, 2008

The 2008 FOLKFEST will be taking place from Friday 29th August to Sunday 31st August 2008.

All the acts are booked and final preparations are underway for the last weekend in August. We have kept all the things that were good in 2007 and improved many areas for this Folkfest.
We have improved on the workshop areas available on Saturday afternoon upstairs at the Baptist Church Hall above the Folkfest Office.
WORKSHOPS

  • 2-3pm Backing Up!! Fiddle Accompaniment. This workshop will focus on accompaniment techniques for the fiddle, including standard bowing patterns and rhythms, cross rhythms, chord constitution and harmony development. Led by Christi Andropolis, a solo artist from America who also plays with Rubus and Jim Causley.
  • 3-4pm Accompanying Song on Guitar. This concerns accompaniment techniques using chords, riffs, lines, finger-picking and strumming. You’ll be taken through from first hearing a song to having a complete guitar accompaniment part for it.
Led by David Newey, singer-songwriter and member of Rubus
  • 4-5.30pm Inspiring Songwriting Workshop. With word play and writing to get the creative juices flowing. Adults and children welcome. Led by the renowned Welsh-American duo Ember.

  • We have improved the Family/Kids entertainment and moved this more centrally to the Baptist Church Hall behind the Dance Stage.
    KIDZONE
    12.00 – 16.30
at the Baptist Church Back Hall
    ( behind the Folkfest Office)
    Juggles the Clown
    1.00pm: Juggling
    2.00pm Sing-a-long
    3.00pm: Magic Show
Also: hair braiding, face-painting, balloon modelling, mask making, refreshments, baby-changing area and much, much more

Moving the Traders Fair to the centre of the Town on the Saturday was a major improvement in 2007 and we have extended the hours of the Fair, provided more Street Entertainment, and hopefully create an even bigger “buzz” in the Town Centre.

We have also extended the hours of the Open Mic/Sessions Venue (2pm -11pm) at the Royal Clarence Hotel along the seafront, which was very popular last year and looks like being even more so this year.
